What It Is
What Is Grab Sampling?
Grab sampling collects a process sample at a specific time for laboratory analysis or another defined test.
The appropriate system depends on:
Capabilities
Grab Sampling Capabilities
Five services that follow a sampling station from first design to long-term care.
Closed-Loop Grab Sampling
Closed-loop grab sampling provides a controlled sample path for suitable applications. System selection considers operating conditions, process pressure and temperature, sample properties, container requirements, and the intended return point.
Sample Station Installations
AES supports the installation of new grab sampling stations and associated equipment. The field scope connects the selected station to the process while addressing access, tie-ins, utilities, and installation requirements.
Annual Sampling System Reliability Programs
AES's Plant Sampler Reliability Program combines an initial survey, part inventory, quarterly inspections and repairs, standardized reporting, and operator training.

Sample Station Design & Fabrication
Develop the sampling arrangement around the application, then define the equipment and fabrication requirements. AES's published design scope includes tie-point identification, technology recommendations, datasheets, isometric drawings, and redline piping and instrumentation diagrams.
Sample Station Upgrades & Retrofits
Update existing stations to address changed requirements, component condition, maintenance difficulties, or limitations in the installed arrangement. The retained equipment and process interfaces should be reviewed before modifications are selected.
Who It Serves
Support for Operations, Maintenance, and Project Teams
Operations
Operations needs a workable sampling task.
Maintenance
Maintenance needs accessible components and clear service information.
Project teams
Project teams need defined equipment, installation requirements, and documentation.
The published AES service base includes refining, petrochemical, and oil and gas facilities. Application suitability and the required scope are reviewed for each new project.
Why AES
Why Choose AES for Grab Sampling?
AES's specialized grab-sampling expertise connects design and installation with the ongoing care of installed assets. A project can therefore begin with a new sampling requirement or an existing asset that needs better performance.

Can AES support an existing sampling station?
Yes. Share the manufacturer, configuration, process conditions, and known issues. The equipment can be reviewed for a repair, retrofit, or reliability-program scope based on its condition and requirements.
Can installation and operator training be coordinated?
Yes, when both are included in the scope. Training should address the installed arrangement and the facility's approved procedures, with responsibilities and audience defined in advance.
How do we choose between a new station and a retrofit?
Start with the required sampling task and the condition of the existing equipment. A review can identify whether a targeted change is suitable or a new arrangement is needed.
Discuss Your Grab Sampling Application
Tell AES what you need to sample, how the sample is analyzed, and what is happening at the current station. We can help define the next step.
