Site Surveys & Walkdowns

Establish What Is Installed Before Defining What Comes Next

AES provides site survey and walkdown capabilities for analytical and sampling system projects. A focused field visit can help document the existing arrangement and identify installation details that are missing from drawings or difficult to evaluate remotely.

What It Is

What Is an Analytical System Walkdown?

A walkdown is a structured review of the equipment and conditions visible within an agreed field scope.

It may capture:

✓ Component identification
✓ Physical arrangement
✓ Available space
✓ Tubing or cable routes
✓ Utility interfaces
✓ Differences from existing documents

Capabilities

Site Survey Capabilities

Four parts of a walkdown, from documenting equipment to findings for the next stage.

Equipment nameplate and tag number being photographed
01

Equipment and Connection Documentation

Record the equipment included in the study and the relevant connection points. Available tag numbers, nameplate information, and photographs can support the record where site rules permit.

02

Routing and Installation Review

Observe proposed or existing routes for sample lines, heated bundles, conduit, and related utilities. Identify visible obstructions, access concerns, and items that need further measurement or design review.

03

Drawing-to-Field Comparison

Compare available drawings with observed conditions. Marked-up information can help identify discrepancies, but the required drawing-update deliverable should be defined rather than assumed to be a complete as-built package.

04

Findings for the Next Work Stage

Organize observations around the project objective. The resulting record can support an assessment, installation scope, material takeoff, or a list of additional information needed before planning continues.

Before the Visit

Prepare for a Useful Field Visit

Provide the project objective, equipment list, available drawings, access rules, and facility contact. Confirm photography permissions, required escorts, work permits, and whether measurements or operating checks are allowed.

If the visit is intended to support a budget, identify the scope boundaries early so the survey captures the quantities and interfaces that matter to the estimate.

Provide:

✓ Project objective
✓ Equipment list
✓ Available drawings
✓ Access rules
✓ Facility contact

Why AES

Why Choose AES for Site Surveys?

AES connects field observations with analytical integration and installation requirements. The survey can focus on details that influence execution, including sample connections, equipment access, utility availability, and the work needed at each interface.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Engineer recording component tags and routes at an analyzer shelter Ask us anything →

Can a survey be performed while the facility is operating?

Often, visual observations can be planned during normal operation, subject to site access and safety requirements. Opening equipment, entering restricted areas, or testing may require separate authorization and isolation.

Will the survey produce certified as-built drawings?

Only if that deliverable is explicitly included and the required verification is possible. A field observation record or marked-up drawing is not automatically a certified as-built drawing set.

What happens if equipment cannot be accessed?

The limitation should be recorded along with its effect on the findings. Follow-up access, owner records, or additional inspection may be needed before the associated scope can be finalized.

Plan a Site Survey or Walkdown

Tell AES what you intend to install, change, or assess so the field visit can capture the information most relevant to that decision.
